Samarkand, one of the oldest inhabited city in Central Asia, is why I came to Uzbekistan. Countless monuments of the past time scattered around the city from Registan, the historical city center to the smaller but more impressive Gur-e Amir Сomplex. This city reeks history and culture like no other places I've seen. It's like Iran on steroid. Everything was surprisingly well maintained as you can see in the crazy intricate detail of the craftsmanship on these islamic architecture.
While I was there, they were preparing for a traditional music festival in Registan and so I was able to see the locals coming out and enjoying the rehearsal performance on stage in the middle of this ancient square. It was amazing!
