Finally, I got a chance to revisit this old city when a friend of mine invited me to join on a trekking trip up the third highest mountain in Thailand, the Chiang Dao. Although I spent only a few hours in the city, there are places I can recommend if you are ever in Chiang Mai and you want a really local experience:
Night Life: Warm-Up
This is one of the hippest dance house in town where young beautiful hipsters both locals and foreigners socialize and dance. There are several sections playing different kind of music to your liking. Prefer a live indie rock music? You can sit on the outside and enjoy the music and the usually cold weather. Prefer dancing and DJ spinning some serious tunes? You can also do that.
Dinner: Tong Tem Toh Restaurant
A nice cozy place serving the northern traditional foods. Both the atmosphere and food were spectacular and if you are open to trying some spicy northern style food, this is the place.
The cheapest flight you can get from Bangkok to Chiang Mai is either through AirAsia or NokAir which usually range from $125 - $150 both ways.
